“I’m Sorry”- Your Husband, My New Book

I handed in the first full draft of my new book to the editor yesterday! It’s titled, “’I’m Sorry”- Your Husband”, and will be published by Page Street (Macmillan) around Mother’s Day 2018.

I’m nervous.

I’m excited!

I’m nervous and excited.

There are a lot of emotions.

It’s a book of apologies. This is everything I’ve gotten wrong as a husband and father, and all the ways I’ve asked for forgiveness. It’s real, and honest, and incredibly relatable, because, honestly, who isn’t screwing up this whole parenting and marriage gig?

It’s not about getting it perfect. It’s about failing in a upward direction, and hoping that your children don’t turn into nutjobs.

When I started blogging, I wanted to better understand my family and my wife, and somehow be a good father despite not really having a good father in my childhood. But now, after blogging for a few years, I’ve started to realize that being a good parent and partner is about personal growth. It’s about admitting when you messed up (we all do it), and then learning from it.

And trust me, reflecting on all my screw-ups has really helped me realize that I’ve come a long ways.

If you are a wife and mother you will see a lot of similarities between your husband, my dumbassery, and Mel’s frustrations. You will also learn a lot about accepting who you are as a parent, and realizing that you don’t have to be perfect, because no one is, and you doing an amazing job, despite what the sanctimommys on Facebook try and tell you. And if you are a father and husband, this book will help you learn from my mistakes and better understand that although marriage and family is life changing in the most frustrating ways, it is all completely worth it.

If you are a fan of No Idea What I’m Doing: a daddy blog (my site), and have been grooving to the articles I’ve written for The New York Times, Scary Mommy, The Washington Post, Babble, or the many other places I’ve contributed to over the years, you might see a few things you recognize in “’I’m Sorry”- Your Husband.” Some of the chapters were inspired by work I did elsewhere, and I expanded them because they really fit the “I’m sorry” theme.

This was one of the most exciting parts, actually. Online, I am usually left cramming my ideas into 1000 words or less. But with a book, that rule goes out the window. It’s been awesome to expand, and mix and weave, some of those essays that hit home online, but I felt needed much, much more content. There’s a lot of new stuff too, so don’t worry.

You are going to love it!

If you are new to my writing, and to the Edwards family, don’t you worry at all. Buy my new book, because it will make you feel a lot better about your job as a parent, because trust me, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing either.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my writing over the years! I’m so happy to share my life with you, and I am confident that you are going to love my new book even more than you already love my crazy family!
